Supporting Black-owned Businesses in Baltimore this Black History Month and Beyond

Feb 19, 2022

Black History Month is a very important time of the year, a month meant to honor and raise awareness of Black History and the central role it has in American history.

Honoring Black history is important this month and every month, so we encourage Anthem House residents to support Black-owned businesses in Baltimore.

Here are some of our favorite Black-owned businesses in Baltimore to support throughout Black History Month, and every month:

Crust by Mack

If you’ve never been to Crust by Mack, then you need to go—right now! They serve a variety of cookies and baked goods and are known for their “crusts,” like the Crab Pie, Everything Bagel Crust, and Shrimp Crust. The business is run by husband and wife, Jarrod and Amanda Mack, as well as several other family members. Crust also actively supports many charities for the local community.

Cuples Tea

Cuples Tea is a tea shop with over 50 different tea selections to choose from. They also stock tea-related products, such as reusable tea bag infusers. You can even dine-in to experience their infamous tea flights. The owners, Eric and Lynnette Dodson, have a love and passion for tea and wish to educate people about the medicinal benefits of drinking tea.

Codetta Bake Shop

Codetta Bake Shop has been a premier dessert provider for generations. Founder Sumayyah Bilal named the bakery after her love of music and how she believes desert is the exclamation point to a meal. Their items constantly change for the needs of their customers, with a variety of cheesecakes, cakes, and cupcakes to choose from.

Celestial Cafe

If you’re looking for delicious home-cooked meals, Celestial Cafe serves healthy southern cuisine for lunch and dinner. Owner Tondria Simon-Allen opened the cafe in 2016 using her families’ best recipes after she switched from hairstyling to cooking.

Berries by Quicha

Chocolate-covered strawberries are an ever-popular gift. This year, shop at Berries by Quicha for gourmet chocolate-covered strawberries that are made from fresh and quality ingredients. Quicha has a creative selection of berries for each holiday and has even had the pleasure of making custom berries for several celebrities, including President Barack Obama and Beyoncé.

The Ivy Hotel

Ivy Hotel is a luxury hotel in Baltimore with a spa, restaurant, and several rooms and suites. Owners Eddie and Sylvia Brown have been making talent and diversity the principles of their business for the past 37 years. They are committed to making the perfect hotel experience with a commitment to their principles and the highest quality of hospitality.

Pandora’s Box

If you’re looking for hilarious fashion accessories, head on down to Pandora's Box. The founder makes sure to sell items that evoke a sense of humor or charm, as well as a meaning behind them. You’re guaranteed to find something that makes you laugh out loud!

KSM Candle Co.

Letta from KSM Candle was a marketing director before a walking dead obsession made her realize her current skills wouldn’t help in an apocalypse. A candle company wasn’t her goal, but creating an enterprise was. Selling custom scented candles and candle accessories just so happened to become her new path, which would also help in the event of a zombie apocalypse!

Dollhouse Boutique

Celebrity stylist Natalie Karyl runs the Dollhouse Boutique, where she sells her own brand that’s been featured in several magazines. In addition to her own clothing line, she also makes sure to sell clothes from other local artists!

Drama Mama Books

At Drama Mama Books, owner Brock knows about the importance of literature, especially for black women authors. When a friend of hers had suddenly passed, she began to bind books in her grief and made a business for these books. She offers beautiful custom-made journals, as well as other journal accessories.

Support Black-Owned Businesses

It’s always a good idea to shop local and shop small, but when you can also support black-owned businesses, you’re helping to put an end to racial injustice.

We hope you enjoy some of our favorite Black-owned businesses in Baltimore!
